He was a bit uptight on Monday but has been super relaxed since then. I think the calmed atmosphere in the classroom due to the high intensity boy leaving has really helped. A lot. It was almost dreamy to watch him playing on the playground with the other boys today and interacting with them at lunch. His teacher and I were just talking a few minutes ago about how he really seems to have turned a corner. She was also very impressed b/c they took a 12 word spelling test yesterday for reading group placement. Not anything they have specifically studied for and Jake got 11 right. The one he missed was the word "six." He spelled it phonetically "siks." She was super impressed even by the nature of that error. From what I gathered he had one of the best scored in the class. She also said that they did reading groups for the first time today which means that she had a few kids at the back table with her and the rest of the class had to do worksheets at their desk independently. Then, they rotate. She said that Jake did great with his seatwork with staying quiet and staying focused.
Wow! Sometimes this kid just blows me away!!! :D :D :D
