My little teacher's pet

So, I'm hearing from a couple of teachers at school that I have the "teacher's pet wanna be." LOL! They didn't say that exactly, that is my interpretation. But, they are so humored by his wanting to be soooooo helpful. In library, he asks Mrs. Lilly for special jobs....handing out the "place keepers" (the cards that hold your spot if you pull a library book out and look at it and want to put it back). In music, the teacher comes into their classroom and Jake always hops up and wants to help her plug in her CD player. He'll do anything for her (not surprising, he LOVES music). With his Kindergarten teacher, he wants to help her get the chairs down off of the desks when he goes in in the mornings, he wants to help her pass out worksheets, he wants to sit near her during quiet time and "take care of her." You can just see that he is changing people's lives and hearts at that school. Many of them are so unfamiliar with autism. This is a private school and Jake is the first child to ever start at this school this young with an ASD diagnosis. There are two children much older who didn't start until much later elementary or jr. high. So, many of these teachers are learning about autism from Jake. Sure, many have heard about it and learned about it in a general fashion from school, seminars, etc. But, many of these teachers have spent their whole careers here at this school and have never had a child with autism in their class. Sometimes I wonder if when Jake is older, he will realize the impact he has had on the lives of others. It just seems that everywhere he goes he changes people's lives and warms their hearts. He's his own little advocate for autism awareness.
