Wall-E

We just got back from seeing Wall-E, the new Disney movie. About 90% of the movie is in "robot noises" So, to get the movie you really have to understand inflection, gestures, intention, and "robot eye positions" that reflect angry, sad, happy, etc. The robots speak NO words other than their own names and each other's names. (Wall-E and EVA) Every once in a while I'd lean over and ask Jake how they were feeling or what they thought. He got it right every time! He would occasionally make comments like "They are having so much fun together!" On the way home we talked a lot about the movie not only from this standpoint but from the standpoint of the BIG message that Disney was trying to put forth about destroying our environment and becoming a bunch of helpless humans that expect everything to be super-fast, super-efficient, super-sized, etc. From my conversation with Jake he got the intentions and feelings of the robots VERY well--I was very impressed. He also got the message as well as any other child his age would. He got it that we need to take care of planet Earth so it doesn't just turn into a bunch of trash and that we need to take care of the bodies that God gave us.

Who knew that a last minute decision to go to the movies with some friends would be such a great experience! Two thumbs up for Wall-E!!
